Work Size: 1 panel of a wall –HT 10 ft by LTH 9ft

Entry Requirements:

1. Artist resume including biography, educational background, and exhibition record.

2. Mural painting proposal to be presented in scale-down size artwork.

(minimum size 76.2cm x 68.6 cm up to maximum size 156.2 cm x 140.5 cm)

3. Complete list of materials required to carry out the mural painting.

4. 250-word concept note – not compulsory.

5. Photographs of previous significant works especially in mural painting.


Timeline: The mural exhibition will be open to the public and press at the HBCSE campus on weekends through January to December 2024 coinciding with the Institute’s celebration of completing 50 years.

Theme: There is no specific theme so as to allow freedom of creativity. However, kindly do bear in mind that the main audience of the murals across the campus will be students, undergraduates and teachers who come to the HBCSE to train in science and science education research from around the country and the world. The idea of having murals across the buildings is to offer creativity for the senses as the day to day cerebral activities go on in the campus.

Prize: There will be 3 prizes for 3 panels on an indoor wall, Rs. 25,000 per artist. Artists will be paid upon completion of the mural. The HBCSE may decide to procure some of the scaled down artwork entries submitted for its own art collection. In such case artists will be informed and terms and conditions of the acquisition will be decided upon.

All entries will receive a certificate of participation.

Rights: The Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education retains all rights to the artworks that are selected.

HBCSE will provide some supplies and preparation of the wall.

Selection Process and Criteria

The selection panel will include members of HBCSE and art consultants. Selection criteria include artistic excellence and originality in interpretation of the assignment. The decision of the selection panel will be final.
